IUS MUN'26

Welcome Letter

Welcome to IUSMUN 2026. It is my great honour to welcome you to IUSMUN, a new initiative at the International University of Sarajevo built on the values of diplomacy, collaboration, and intellectual curiosity. As one of the founders and the Secretary-General of IUSMUN, I see this conference as more than an academic simulation. It is an opportunity to create a space where students can challenge their perspectives, exchange ideas, engage with global issues, and develop the skills necessary to become thoughtful and responsible leaders.

Model United Nations encourages participants to look beyond their own perspectives and understand the complexities of international relations. Through research, negotiation, and debate, delegates learn that diplomacy is not simply about defending a position, but also about listening, finding common ground, and working towards solutions despite differences. IUSMUN aims to make this experience both challenging and rewarding. Whether you are an experienced delegate or taking your first steps into the world of Model United Nations, this conference is an opportunity to learn, grow, and discover your potential. We encourage every participant to approach each discussion with curiosity, every disagreement with respect, and every challenge with an open mind.

As we establish IUSMUN, our ambition extends beyond a single conference. We hope to build a lasting platform that encourages student initiative, strengthens international understanding, and inspires future generations to engage actively with the issues shaping our world. I am deeply grateful to everyone who has contributed their time, effort, and dedication to bringing IUSMUN to life. This initiative is the result of a shared commitment to creating meaningful opportunities for students and building something that can continue to grow in the years ahead. I invite you to make the most of everything IUSMUN has to offer. Be bold in your ideas, thoughtful in your arguments, and respectful in your discussions. Above all, remember that the value of this experience lies not only in the resolutions we produce, but also in the knowledge we gain, the connections we build, and the perspectives we take with us. Welcome to IUSMUN 2026 — where dialogue creates understanding, ideas inspire action, and diplomacy brings us closer to a better future.

DISEC

Agenda Item: Regulating the use of unmaned aerial systems and artificial intelligence in armed conflict.

Unmanned aerial systems and artificial intelligence are changing how armed conflict is fought. From remotely piloted striked to AI-assisted targeting, autonomous weapons are taking over modern warfare. These developments raise urgent questions about compliance with international humanitarian law, harm accountability, civilian safety and human control. This comimittee is asked to consider the existing international laws and how they apply to these weapons and determine whether new regulations and binding instruments are necessary. The committee is to discuss measures that can be taken to reduce risks to civilians and ensure international stability.

GA:6 Sixth Committee: Legal Quesstions

Agenda Item: Strengthening International Law on Crimes Against Humanity

The Sixth Committee is dedicated to the promotion of international law in order to ensure a better, safer world. It convenes representatives of all member states in order to discuss their legal concerns and strive towards a mutually beneficial compromise. Behind every act of conflict and violence lies human suffering; an individual’s right to live with dignity and security is often taken away. The goal of this agenda is to learn how nations could cooperate in the prevention of acts of crimes against humanity and in ensuring that the perpetration of such crimes would be met with justice. As delegates, you will delve into challenging issues of international law, defend the viewpoint of your state and come up with solutions.

Security Council

Agenda Item: Establishing the Conditions for a Ceasefire and a Just and Lasting Peace in Ukraine

The ongoing Russia–Ukraine war has raised critical questions about international law, accountability, and the effectiveness of the United Nations. With Russia holding a permanent seat and veto power in the Security Council, the international community faces significant challenges in responding to alleged violations of international law. In this committee, delegates will explore the limits of the Security Council’s authority, debate alternative mechanisms for accountability, and seek solutions to uphold international law amid conflicting geopolitical interests.
